Steamboat, has replaced the Elkhead fixed-grip chair in Priest Creek with a new Doppelmayr high-speed, detachable quad. The new HSQ reduces ride time by more than half to less than three minutes. The old lift moved at 425 feet per minute. The new lift moves at 1,000 feet per minute and provides access to the popular Sunshine and Priest Creek areas of the mountain. It will decrease wait times during peak periods such as lunchtime and end-of-day egress. The new lift also features significant Doppelmayr technology and upgrades from its predecessor, including a child-friendly restraint system on each chair.
The resort celebrated the opening of its newest lift in style. The very first
chair carried resort spokesman and Olympian Billy Kidd along with resort
employees who played a role in the lift’s installation. The event was
marked with the popping of some Korbel Champagne.
