The Blackfoot double chairlift has been an iconic piece of Grand Targhee’s history since it was installed in 1974. It’s 1,200 ft vertical serviced 500+ acres of sweet terrain on the skier’s right of the mountain. It had a 960 riders per hour uphill capacity with a ride time of about 12 minutes.

Last summer the Blackfoot chairlift was replaced with a new Doppelmayr fixed grip quad with a “comfort bar”, (that used to be a “safety bar” until someone somewhere decided differently), doubling capacity to 1,800 guests per hour and cutting ride time to 7 minutes. In the event of a power failure the lift can operate on diesel power.

The new Blackfoot lift is scheduled to be running on opening day. “The entire resort team is excited to replace and upgrade the Blackfoot chairlift,” stated marketing & sales director, Ken Rider. He goes on to say, “The resort ownership and entire team is committed to the guest experience and reinvesting in the resort with ongoing improvements that enhance the guest experience. This is the largest and most visible of many recent capital investments the resort has made.”
