(November 2015) As I sit here looking out my window on Bass River, Cape Cod, I can see a town barge pulling the channel makers out of the river, bringing 
the boating season to its official close. It’s one of the harbingers of winter we go through every year, like the first snowfall reports, Ski magazine’s Top 50 Resorts issue, and the first openings of the season at Killington, Loveland and A-Basin. My favorite harbinger of all is the Boston Ski and Snowboard Expo, produced by BEWI Sports.
As a skier, I love the ski show. It’s my first opportunity to meet with like minded snow sports enthusiasts, to put my hands on the latest equipment, learn what’s up at various resorts, and of course, all that swag! No place has more freebies than the ski show. In fact, it’s quite easy to recoup the cost of entrance given the deals inside. Chances are there’s even a discounted admission coupon in your local paper. As a snow sports journalist, I have the added pleasure of attending a number of cocktail parties hosted by Ski New Hampshire, Ski Vermont, Tourism Quebec, a breakfast briefing by the Snowsports Industries of America, and my personal favorite, the annual BEWI luncheon.
Each year BEWI president, Bernie Weichsel, hosts a fantastic event for some of the biggest movers and shakers in the industry. In the last couple of luncheons I’ve had the opportunity to converse with Olympic and World Champions and celebrities like Tommy Moe, Glen Plake, Donna Weinbrecht, Pam Fletcher, Dan Egan, Ryan St. Onge, Fuzz Feddersen, and share it with you.
Take the opportunity to get yourself pumped about the coming season. Get to a ski show!
