(October 2013)  Beginning skiers and boarders visiting Ragged Mountain this season will be treated to a new area dedicated to them. Beginner’s Basin is located near the tubing park, adjacent to the Barnyard Beginner Area. The focus of the area is to help beginners become more comfortable on skis or a snowboard in less time. This new section of terrain has its own 320-ft. carpet lift and showcases a variety of snow features that ease first-timers into going down the slopes. Snow tubers will also be able to ride the carpet lift to the tubing park.

The new tubing park is over 650 feet in length (more than 2 football fields), with ten lanes and an overall pitch of 16 degrees. The park is designed with a series of pitches and rollers for speeds up to 30 mph, ending in a 250-ft run-out. A new Sunkid lift will bring snow tubers from the base area to the top of the new tubing park.

“We are really excited about these two new attractions that will provide new exciting options for everyone,” commented Bob Ashton, President of Ragged Mountain. “Both the terrain based learning area and the new tubing park are additional steps towards our commitment to grow the sports of skiing and riding and the overall vision of Ragged Mountain Resort as a premier location to enjoy the outdoors all year long.”

In the past three years, Ragged Mountain Resort has invested over $4 million in snowmaking and grooming upgrades. This includes purchasing and installing over 275 high-efficiency, low-energy snow guns, upgrading snowmaking pumps, as well as automating the snowmaking system on two popular trails – Flying Yankee and Exhibition, allowing the resort to have both peaks open in early December.  www.raggedmountainresort.com
