(February 2013) I love my ski helmet. I waited far too long to get one. A few years ago, I won a great ski helmet at a local ski show and gave it to my husband. Well, it seems turnabout is fair play because at this year’s Boston Ski & Sport Expo he won a helmet at the Ski Vermont Cocktail party and gave it to me.
I really do love my helmet. It fits perfectly, it’s warm, comfortable, and makes me feel more safe and secure on the hill, but there’s just one problem………..it’s pretty ugly. Beggars can’t be choosers and in this case, when my husband won the drawing, he was handed a brand new helmet in the box. He wasn’t able to choose the size or color. Luckily the size was just right for me, but the color, not so much. It’s kind of a Martian green. I’m sure it would be perfect for a young snowboard enthusiast, but for a fifty something woman, it’s just a bit much. However, there is a solution, helmet covers!
Helmet covers are great. They come in a wide range of styles, colors, and fabrics. Just do an internet search and you will see what I mean. You can adorn your head with animals, dreadlocks, Mohawks, halos, princess crowns and many more. Here are a few of my favorite links: www.pisteheadz.com , www.breckenridgehatcompany.com and www.crazeeheads.com to get a good sampling of what is available. You have the flexibility of changing your helmet cover to match your ski clothes, or your mood for the day. Feeling silly? A court jester or clown might fit the bill. Feeling conservatively stylish? A basic black quilted cover with faux fur trim fits the bill. Feeling elegant? An embroidered velvet number would be just right. And because helmet covers are very affordable you can change your look without breaking the bank. So now you can be safe and stylish and you don’t have to settle for just one look. After all, we all know it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind, and the helmet that cover’s it!
